Introducing Body Awareness In Training

In the video below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients demonstrating a lateral and anterior/lateral lunge whilst holding a stick along their spine (touching head, back and bottom) and then bending forward.  The stick was used to provide an external cue for the client and the lunge with bend movement was chosen as this is a movement the individual does regularly and I wanted to 1.  Gain some understanding into how the individual perceived this movement when using this external cue in the movement 2.  See if it aggravated their lower back complaint (hence the reason for them attending to see me at the clinic) 3.  See if I can look to give the client some movement strategies to reduce the aggravation of their back in such movements (the back is typically aggravated by flexion/rotation movements, as with almost anyone with lower back pain). In addition to this we have looked at mobility and stability and have prescribed a number of exercises to perform at home as well as during certain work positions or tasks, to adopt some strategies to minimise the degree of flexion/rotation through the back (given that the repetition and duration will remain as a result of work).
