Hip Thrusters

The hip bridge is a great exercise to train the gluteals and hamstrings.  You can start on the ground and work with both legs or one.  You can place the feet up on a bench to increase your range of motion or you can place your back on a bench or swiss ball to do the same.

In the video below we have osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing a barbell hip thruster from the ground.  You can also perform a resisted hip thruster by using a plate across your hips or dumbbells.  When performing a barbell hip thruster, make sure you have some padding across the hips or else the barbell will be rubbing across the front of your hips (ASIS) and this can cause discomfort.
