Grooving Your Squat Pattern

When it comes to coaching clients to squat, there are often a few different strategies that I will implement and these will differ based on the specific individual presentations.

Two of my favourite squat mobilisers that I like to use are the wall and doorway squat.

The Wall Squat

This is a great way to teach someone how to squat and to sit back into their hips whilst maintaining an upright trunk and shoulder position.

Start back from the wall and as you progress, move your feet closer to the wall to make it more difficult.  For those who have specific mobility issues around their shoulder girdle, they might benefit from trialling the doorway squat to eliminate the shoulder girdle taking away from teaching the squat movement.

The Doorway Squat

This exercise is often a little easier for those who have shoulder mobility issues.  The benefits of teaching the individual to maintain an upright trunk position and sitting back into the hips is still there.
