Getting Your Lunge On | An Osteopaths Perspective

The lunge is one of my favourite lower limb exercises because it reveals a lot when it comes to looking at how one can move one side of the body to the other as well as offering a great deal of variation in how one can perform a lunge.   Some of my go to favourite lunge variations include:

  • Anterior and posterior lunge – Sagittal plane
  • Lateral lunge and carioca – Frontal plane
  • Rotational lunge – Transverse lunge
  • The lunge can be varied in many different ways and some of my favourite tweaks as Gary Gray calls it include the start position, lunge distance, lunge direction, end point, speed/tempo +/- the use of external load.

In the video below you will see a few of my favourite lunge movements.
