Get Yourself Squat Ready

There are many different ways to warm up and get yourself ready to squat.  Often I will spend 10-15 minutes carrying out a range of mobility and activation drills that focus on ankle, hip and spine mobility, as well as a range of exercises that warm up and get the right muscles active and ready to fire.  I will also perform a number of drills that involve actually squatting movements that get me ready to hit position and have the body prepared for lifting.   Often I  will also spend up to 4-6 sets squatting with the bar on my back and working towards my working sets.  This way I can feel fully prepared and ready to squat.

In the video below we see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy performing an overhead squat against the wall with the hip circle placed around his knees. I especially like this drill because it focuses on hitting positions and activating the upper body and lower body.  This drill can also be performed with the bar across the back or without a bar.

Next time you are in the gym and looking to squat, give this a go and perform 2-3 sets of 8-10 reps to help get the body squat ready.
