Dumbbell Pendulum Shoulder Mobiliser

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams demonstrating a dumbbell pendulum shoulder mobiliser.  This is probably one of the most commonly prescribed mobility exercises for those attending the clinic with shoulder complaints as it allows the individual to use gravity to act on the shoulder joint and help to traction through the shoulder as one moves through movement.  One can perform this exercise by simply using ones arm or gravity, or you can help to facilitate a better reaction by having them hold onto a small hand weight.

I will always allow my clients to self select the range of motion that they take their shoulder through a speed so to avoid any potential pain should their be an underlying musculoskeletal complaint.  The range of motion, external weight and speed of movement can then be regressed or progressed depending on what your objective is based on the prescription of this exercise.
