Crawling For Fun And Movement Prep

Crawling is something that we all do in our very first months of life after we have honed the skills of rolling patterns and also being able to control head position when in the prone position.  In the video below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients performing crawling at floor level as part of their movement preparation for a more gymnastics/calisthenics program.  The idea of adding crawling into the movement prep phase is to get the whole body moving at once.  It is also fun and more challenging than one thinks.

Try crawling for yourself and pulling yourself along the floor.  You can also vary this by changing your position on the floor (elevating yourself off the ground) or changing hand and knee positions throughout the crawling patterns.  Also remember to practice crawling backwards.
