Here is an example of a closed chain exercise for the client with a left foot/ankle instability and plantarfasciitis and achilles issues. The left foot is kept on ground at all stages and the right foot is used to help drive proprioception into the left foot/ankle without needing to react to ground reaction force (if it was the driving leg). The client is asked to gently step/lunge in the sagittal plane, frontal plane and transverse plane. This exercise has been prescribed with some mini lunges (feet side by side, split squat – left in front of right and right in front of left). If they can successfully achieve these movement patterns without aggravating their symptoms, the exercise is progressed.

At Principle Four Osteopathy, we incorporate a lot of movement and exercise into the treatment and management of ones conditions. The lunge matrix is great for conditioning ones lower limb and is a fundamental movement pattern that we carry out on a daily basis. Principle Four Osteopathy is located in the heart of the Melbourne City CBD 3000 at 29 Somerset Place, Melbourne City CBD 3000 (near the corner of little bourke and elizabeth st).
