Calf Complex Flexibility and Mobiliser

Stretching and gaining more mobility through the calf muscle complex (gastrocnemius and soleus muscles) can be carried out in a number of ways.  The most commonly prescribed stretch for the calf muscles is a straight leg or bent knee static stretch against the wall.  In the video below you will see this stretch taken a step further by using ones opposite leg to step across in the frontal plane to drive more motion through the foot/ankle and into the calf muscles.  The key with this mobility stretch is to maintain tension through the calf muscles and keep the foot planted on the ground.  One can then look to increase the tension load through the muscles by changing the degree of frontal plane stepping.
