Cable Pull Through – A Great Hip Hinge Exercise

The cable pull through exercise is a great hip hinge exercise because the set up of the cable pulley relative to the individual encourages the individual to perform movement of the hip in the horizontal plane.  Often this is one of the biggest challenges when first teaching clients how to perform a hip hinge pattern because the default movement is often more of a vertical squat movement pattern for the beginner learner.  The aim with the cable pull over is to move the hips horizontally whilst maintaining a neutral trunk position and partial knee bend.  This exercise can be used as a tool to help facilitate the movement with some lighter loads or could be used as a warm up or conditioning exercise for reps at sub maximal loads.
