Bodyweight Training

Whilst bodyweight training has been around as long as exercise itself, recently there has been a resurgence in its popularity and it is now moving from the hardcore bodyweight and calisthenic guys to the mainstream exercise group.   This can be seen across the likes of YouTube, in the major gym franchises, in Crossfit boxes and with an increase in professional development courses such as Zuu, Animal Flow and many others.

Body weight training involves the individual mastering their own body and performing a range of movements using almost any apparatus to lever or hang off or perform on the ground.  That is the great thing about body weight training, the individual is not restricted or confined to a specific exercise tool or environment and you can get a great workout in any place.  The focus can be on skill development, strength, mobility, power and all combined.

Principle Four Osteopaths Heath Williams, Tim McNamara and Cathryn Leszczynski have recently undertaken further training in this area so that they can gain a better understanding of the mobility and stability requirements, how and why injuries may occur and how best to treat and manage these complaints.  They have recently undertaken training with a local Melbourne bodyweight training expert, bodyweight sessions at Jon Weller Personal Training Studio, as well as further training in Zuu, Animal Flow and also more recently with Dragon Door Australia with Australia’s 2012 Gymnastic Coach Simone Greig.

If you are currently undertaking bodyweight training and are starting to find that you are getting stiff and sore, then be sure to book in with one of us at Principle Four Osteopathy so that we can provide you with an appropriate treatment plan and provide you with advice on how you can continue without needing to stop your training.
