Bent Over Dumbbell Row Exercise & Variations

In the videos below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy demonstrating the bent over row exercise with bilateral arm row (dumbbells) and unilateral arm row (single arm).   The bent over row is a great exercise as it requires the individual to lock their torso in a fixed stable position so that the spine is not exposed to any unnecessary movement and possible risk of injury.  The dumbbell row is a great alternative to the barbell because the dumbbell use allows for varied movement pathways as well as an increased range of motion relative to the barbell.  The main difference between the bilateral and unilateral row is that the unilateral is more challenging as one must also look to stabilise the torso so to avoid rotation of the trunk (looking to keep shoulders in line with the hips).
