Bench Press Isometric Hold – An Osteopaths Perspective

In the image below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy demonstrating a bench press with isometric hold at the top phase of the bench press.  This has been incorporated into the training cycle to work on developing strength in the top phase of the bench press.  One could look to vary the phase of where the isometric hold is carried out by adjusting the position of the racks from the floor.  Multiple sets of isometric holds were incorporated into the program.   The isometric hold requires you to create tension through the trunk and upper body and I would suspect that this may help transfer over to assisting with trunk and upper body tension that is important when performing a bench press by creating a stable base to push from.
