Band Resisted Static Lunge – Improving Knee Control

In the image below you will see Pilates educator and coach Jodie Sheehy demonstrating a band resisted static lunge. The band is used in this exercise to provide external feedback to the individual so to encourage them to maintain a stable knee position (typically you will see ones knee dive in medially when ones control and stability is not optimal).  The band resistance can be adjusted to suit the individual and I would advise starting with tension that challenges the individual, but allows them to perform the full exercise correctly.   This is one of the many different strategies that we might employ at Principle Four Osteopathy when ones technique is not optimal or we are wanting them to focus on a specific element of the exercise i.e. increase control/stability, increase muscle activation etc.
