Are You Working On Your Hand Strength?

Hand strength is probably one of the most commonly forgotten or undertrained regions of the body, yet the importance of having good hand strength is paramount, especially when training with body weight movements or with conventional exercises that require hand strength.

Often it is a lack of hand  strength that perhaps is the limiting reason why one cannot progress any further with a chin up and other bodyweight or conventional exercises.

Next time you hit the gym, perhaps think about adding in some wrist, hand and finger mobility and strength work to your program.  Remember, the wrist and hand is like any other part of the body and if you haven’t trained these areas before, you will need to start gradually and build up slowly.  Mobility with loading through the fingers and wrists can be quite challenging and one should take it very slowly as they develop strength through range of motion.

Below are some examples of how could work on hand strength, this includes grip strength and finger strength.
