Addressing Lumbar Spine Position With Hip Flexion in Quadruped Position

In the video below you will see one of Principle Four Osteopathy clients performing a quadruped rocking exercise that uses the water bottle as an external cue to help facilitate lumbar control during hip flexion.  This has been prescribed to encourage both control and coordination of the movement that is often required in many exercising training movements.  The exercise has been regressed to the quadruped position to simply the movement and focus on this area specifically.  Once the client has mastered this it can be progressed to standing and will assist in movements such as the squat, deadlift, lunge and step up.  This client was previously flexing the spine excessively and if was to occur in a loaded upright exercise as listed above it may lead to over time strain to the body.
