Active and Dead Hang – Great Exercises For The Back and Shoulders

Assuming you don’t have a shoulder injury that is causing pain, the active and dead hang are two great exercises to incorporate into ones program as the dead hang (holding onto the bar and letting the body relax) and active hang (actively engaging the shoulder girdle muscles) are two exercises that I have found beneficial for many people undertaking regular resistance training.  Even those desk jockeys that I see in the clinic have found benefits from these two exercises.  For the untrained person I might start with these if they have a decent level of strength and have them work to time.  For many regular gym goers I will often prescribe these two as part of their movement prep to prepare the body for training.
