Ab Roller Progressions

The Ab Roller is one the more common exercise tools used in the strength and conditioning environment to train the core.  It involves the individual placing their hands on the wheel and having to roll it away from their centre of gravity and base of support (most often from the kneeling position or standing for the advanced) whilst aiming to maintain a safe and stable trunk position.

In the video below you will see osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy demonstrate a variation on the kneeling ab wheel roll out where he will roll out from the kneeling position and then lift his knees off the ground to create a different training stimulus.

For those of you who are fit and healthy and aren’t suffering from any specific upper limb or lower back complaints, give this a try next time you are in the gym.
